Formulary introduction

A local formulary is defined as "the output of processes to support the managed introduction, utilisation or withdrawal of healthcare treatments within a health economy, service or organisation". The Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust formulary reflects local prescribing needs and has been produced to help to reduce variation in prescribing.

The Trust Medicines Governance Committee discusses and gives clinical approval for all medicines–related NICE recommendations, Pan Mersey Area Prescribing Committee recommendations and other hospital medicine requests including local and national medicines safety issues. The Committee is responsible for promoting the safe and effective use of medicines in a cost effective manner.
